Ghost Falls-Corner Canyon

The boys and I spent the morning hiking in Corner Canyon. We planned to go to Ghost Falls, and we did get there, but we didn't go the most direct way. Niall said he loved being with me because I kept getting lost and prolonging the outing. He just wanted to stay all day, especially after we made it to the water fall.
Niall brought his friend, Noah.
The boys are examining the snake they almost stepped on.
A close up for identification-still working on it...
Leith tries to scale a very steep, slippery slope.
This was a very cool rock formation.

Cute boys, lots of fun!

Coral took the boys to Provo yesterday. They fed ducks and then watched the Italy vs. Paraguay World Cup game at an authentic Italian pizza restaurant. I wish I was that cool.

Scottish Festival and Highland Games 2010

Coral and Lance check out a Scottish deer hound. There were many very well-bred dogs on parade.
We don't know why, but there was a booth with this owl on display-seriously cool to see up close. The fellas are all holding their refillable root beer bottles, one of the highlights of the event for them.
The weather was cold-40's and 50's- with intermittent driving rain showers. It was authentic in some ways, but definitely a problem at times. The shopping was not as plentiful, as many vendors had not braved the weather. We had great fun, though. The piping was fabulous, the athletes were burly, and the concerts were very entertaining. We became fans of Kirkmount, a local Celtic ensemble with roots in Nova Scotia-amazing harp, bones, fiddle and cello. Molly's Revenge was wonderful and the Wicked Tinkers were even more primal than in past years. We heard one pipe band play a long, hauntingly beautiful piece that they explained was an example of Pio Braireachd (phonetically-pea brook), an very ancient form of bag piping.
Lance and his brother Jonathon spent time chatting at the Montgomery Clan booth and looking up their tartan. India was cold and tired and spent time bundled up in Jack's band-the Salt Lake Scots- tent. Niall and Leith shopped for knives, which I have now confiscated, and drank tons of artisan root beer. And, Kevin walked around looking good in his kilt.
Here are some videos of the guys trying the very manly sport of Caber Tossing:

This and That....

Niall's cub scout pack had a cardboard car race-here is Niall getting ready for his first heat.
One of three required pit stops-His car was quite compact which gave him an edge over the boys with larger boxes. The pink duct tape was a special touch. He and Coral had fun making the car at a previous pack meeting.
Kevin and the kids playing their new obsession- spoons played with Pit cards

Leith is a serious worker bee.
Visiting GG's grave on the Sunday before Memorial Day-only Coral actually remembers Kevin's grandmother who was a big influence in his life.

We hiked in Corner Canyon on Memorial Day. Here is Kevin at the top of the canyon where it opens out into a meadow surrounded by tall peaks.
The kids turned back before the top and waited at the car-wimps! They just weren't totally into the activity this day.
Painting with art supplies from Grandma Allred-While Coral has been looking for a job, she has had more time to spend with the boys.
